Abstract: |
AretAc Associates proposes a Phase I effort to prototype a simulation that is capable of generating simultaneous sea clutter in the multiple sensors and geometries required to fully cover the operational conditions of the AEGIS Combat System (ACS) through tracking time-scales. The overall objective of this SBIR project is to then develop and integrate the sea clutter simulation into the AEGIS Combat System Testbed suitable for algorithms and tactics assessments. The Phase I base effort will focus on demonstrating the basic concept of simultaneous multi-modal, multi-geometry ocean clutter simulation that maintains fidelity at least through tracking times. The results of the simulation software can then be utlized in detection and tracking algorithm evaluation, mission design and system performance assessments to aid in preparing the AEGIS Combat System for future threats and stressing operational conditions. |
Benefits: |
Technologies developed from this study would aid Navy efforts to assess multiple-sensor systems in situations where sea clutter limits overall system performance. The primary market for this technology is the U.S. Navy, specifically PEO IWS targeting the AEGIS Combat System Baseline 9 and 10 configurations. A successful Phase I effort may also be used as the basis for use in other combat and weapon system testbeds in NAVSEA and NAVAIR. The MDA mission space is also evolving an need to handle ocean clutter in order to deal with emerging threats, and MDA simulations could benefit from the technology developed in this SBIR. |
